Comments from Dan - "The source of this recording originated from Dave Dunnington's master VHS recording of the Trent FM broadcast. (Thanks Dave!) Contrary to popular belief, there is no recording "from the master reels" circulating for this show. What's out there now originated from Dave's great source. I wasn't exactly polishing a turd on this one, but to my ears, this show lacked punch and 'balls' which I think have added with a little tweaking. Aside from the fade out and fade in for the disc change, there was no editing done to this recording." [Simon_Funnell] Smooth! I find RAH a little sterile but the quality of the recording is unquestionable. [speedy] This one has the best romeo & julliet story ever heared ! Really wet my pants with this one... Only small thing thats a bit annoying are some people in the audiance yelling for cinema show (well can believe that with the R&J story) and suppers ready... But in short this is a very good recording from a very good show ! Too bad they didn't do mama nor dreaming while you sleep... [santibanks] Not an A+, just an A. The Romeo and Juliet story before the Old Medley is really the gem in the set here - tempered from its more typical perversions (perhaps due to the attendance of the Royals). The sound quality is excellent and the BURP remastering work is exceptional as always. It just sounds "too soundboard" for me. You only get the effects on Phil's vocals when they "wet" it in for special things. This was a disappointment given how awesome Royal Albert Hall is for acoustics. The live feel of the crowd is lost for the most part (unless they are heckling Phil between tunes). Plus, I'm not sure I needed to hear how bad the backing vocals had gotten from the rest of the cast throughout - wow! Plus, "Hold On My Heart" is, well, just not one of their brighter moments. Perhaps a matrix with "Albert's Audience" might work well. Peace! [jrromman] |
