Show Memories Show memories
Rusty Smith, good friend and fellow tape trader, captured this show with his Sony recorder (unsure of the specific type) and made me a copy from his Master a few days later. He also managed to grab a few songs from the soundcheck, recorded just outside the arena door, which are also in this torrent.

He and I and our girlfriends all attended the show and scored seats on the 4th row, left side of the Secret World stage (not too far from the "phone booth"). The recording is surprisingly smooth, considering we were jumping, singing and clapping the entire time (and I'm surprised the microphone luckily only picked up bits and pieces of our noisy celebration!). The show was high energy, and being so close to Peter, it was awesome to finally attend a show to see this legend live. Soundwise I'd rate the show a solid "B". Some parts are muffled at times with tiny amounts of distortion, and the mic sometimes is bumped here and there, but overall it sounds good. "Across the River" was faded out early to compensate for the tape flip. The next song "Shaking the Tree" fades in just as the vocals start. Also, "Biko" fades in during the first few seconds as well. But the rest of the songs from the show are complete. The other fades occur during tape flips and encore (but it's only audience applause, no music is lost).

A couple of additional memories:

* Just before "Family Snapshot", Peter says "This is the first time we will have performed this number in six years!" And it was a great performance.

* During "Digging in the Dirt", when Peter lifted off the cloak covering the large "face" on stage, he showed a look of shock and horror, and the theatrics that followed were incredible. The mini-cam above his face twisted in several directions and the spooky music made for an incredibly twisted performance. For me, that was one of the best parts of the show. No video can capture the bizarre nature of seeing this song performed up close.

* Just before "Secret World", the intro goes wrong, so Peter stops. He then says "This is known technically as a f*ck up. This is take two of Secret World"

* When the opening act was on, Peter and Tony Levin were dancing just to the side of the stage behind a caged area. We all rushed up to dance with them, and a crowd of about 40 people were 20 feet away from Peter and Tony all dancing along! Peter and Tony seemed to enjoy it as we all mimicked their moves, which they found quite entertaining. [yild4genesis]
